The Easy Way To Give Your Painted Dresser A Luxurious Pottery Barn Finish

The restaurant features original beamed ceilings, impressive fireplaces, striking hearths and a warm rustic décor.

The owner held a party in one of the moving sections, attended by the mayor of Los Angeles. Hiram Higgins was a Chicago grain merchant who decided to make his home in Los Angeles on the city's newest grand boulevard. His nine-bedroom, Queen Anne-style mansion was originally built further east on Wilshire at Rampart Street, where the Wilshire Royale apartments now stand. Older wheat varieties that naturally adapted to their place are critical for flavor diversity and climate change.

Tofu egg, onions, tomatoes, sausage, potatoes, cheese, tempeh bacon served with baked potato. As you level up your town, you’ll earn development points that unlock new technologies for your town to use. This lets you add a plowing station to your farm and use an oxen to plow and move crops. This increases the area a family can handle by quite a bit — to the point where you can basically double the size of your fields (or just have twice as many fields and crops).

Guests can also kick start their weekend with savory Saturday/Sunday à la carte brunch/lunch items. The superlative choice among Basking Ridge restaurants, the Grain House will satisfy even the most discerning foodie. Gaines's KitchenAid stand mixer likely won't stay at this price for long.

Mixed greens, avocado, cabbage, red pepper, cherry tomato, toasted in our balsamic vinaigrette. Marinated tempeh, thousand island dressing onions, tomato, melted daiya cheese and sauerkraut on sour dough bread. Tofu egg, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, avocado served with baked potatoes. This means that you’ll only ever have two fields with crops planted — for a total of 0.6 morgen worth of crops. That just so happens to be about how much a family can manage in a year. Meanwhile, you’ll always have one fallow field that’s resetting its fertility.

I like that they do not gouge on shipping costs like most suppliers. First time wholesale customers will see their pricing adjusted after the order is submitted. Now retired from the entertainment business, the timeless Higgins/Verbeck/Hirsch Mansion and its incredible story live on. After the Great Depression, the home fell into disrepair over a half century of neglect. During this time, it was used as a retirement home for nuns, a mission, an office, and a rooming house for young aspiring actors. In 1924, the home's new owner had the house cut into three sections, lifted onto trucks, and rolled to its current location in Windsor Square.

Mango, strawberry, kiwi, blackberry, banana, chocolate syrup topped with whipped cream. Spinach, mushroom, zucchini, red pepper in a roasted garlic sauce. Toasted sourghdough bread, asmash avocado, cherry tomatoes and poached egg. When you click on a field, you’ll get a menu that allows you to pick what type of crop to grow the next year — wheat, flax, or barley. You also have the option to not grow anything at all and to let the field lie fallow.

Setting a field to fallow for a year restores that field’s fertility. Starting in the autumn, the family assigned to a farm will look for a nearby field (basically any field in the region) and start to plow it. Plowing is followed by sowing, which also has to happen in autumn. If a field isn’t plowed and sowed by the time winter starts in December that field will be fallow for the year — you’ll also get a notification about it. Like we mentioned above, a family can harvest, plow, and sow about 0.6 morgen during a season. When you’re ready to start farming, you’ll also need a farmhouse (3 timber).

If the crop you just harvested was wheat (emmer), it’ll be taken to the farm where it’s threshed into grain. Marinara sauce, daiya cheese, pineapple and ham served with your choice of mixed green or roasted potatoes. Marinara sauce, daiya cheese served with your choice of mixed green or roasted potatoes.

And since many items from her brand collaborations sell out fast, you'll want to grab it now while supplies last. After a great season - with our Central Oregon hay fields, we have added more this year. This area produces the best Orchard Grass and Mixed Grass hay in the country.

This is where you can assign a family to start working the fields. Once you've prepared your work surface, remove the drawers and handles. Sand and prime the dresser and drawer faces, then apply your paint — FYI, you may need several coats. Apply your glaze with a staining brush in horizontal sweeps, then go over the same area with your handheld broom to give it that luxe finish. TikToker @shellydoesdiy suggests practicing this technique on a piece of scrap wood beforehand. When the dresser is dry, consider applying a clear matte top coat.

The specifics that particular unit of measurement aren’t worth getting into right now (and they’re confusing as hell). For our purposes, know that a single family working on a farm can manage — plow, plant, and harvest — about 2⁄3 morgen per year. Farming in Manor Lords takes a lot of work to understand and it’s hard to make it work properly. There’s a lot to consider — from soil fertility to acreage (morgenage?) to processing the crops — and it can be really frustrating and time-consuming if you mess something up. With this technique, you can revamp your dresser into a statement piece worthy of a Pottery Barn catalog.

My name is Ronnie and it is my goal to bring you the best Southern-inspired recipes, reviews, and restaurants from the South and beyond. To be honest we almost did not go because so many people told us the food was not good but the dessert was. I thought both of our dishes was fantastic!. Ronnie, I've found that restaurants with huge menus are usually not very good.

Restaurant Bites: The Cheesecake Factory to open, SouthPark spots closing

The Cheesecake Factory is my one exception to that rule. I've loved everything I've ever had there. We don't have one nearby, but I've eaten at various ones while traveling. Two of my favorites are the Chicken Piccata (with mashed potatoes instead of angel hair pasta) and the Pasta Da Vinci.

Curbside

According to The Cheesecake Factory Website, it all started in the 1940s when Evelyn Overton found a recipe in her local Detroit newspaper. This recipe inspired her to make the Original Cheesecake that we all know and love today. Enjoy the high-energy atmosphere seven days a week, serving appetizers, lunch, dinner, late night dining, full bar, Saturday & Sunday brunch, and curbside To-Go service. In a different part of the Charlotte area, local chef Jim Noble just opened his fourth location of Bossy Beulah’s Chicken Shack in Fort Mill. That’s as local franchisees brought the region’s third Slim Chickens to Indian Trail. They really make the best cheesecake but I also have to say the food we ate beforehand was really good as well.

For instance, I ordered Chicken Madeira, one of their specialty dishes. My wife ordered Orange Chicken, an Asian-inspired dish. When you walk into the restaurant, it is truly breathtaking. I do not believe I have ever been to a more beautiful chain restaurant before. We walked up and added our names to the list, It is going to be an hour wait the lady said.

Food items range from hamburgers to southern comfort food, to Asian-inspired dishes. Choose from more than 250 dishes made fresh from scratch every day and more than 40 legendary cheesecakes and desserts. Though not locally based, The Cheesecake Factory is set to open its second Charlotte-area restaurant this month at Birkdale Village in Huntersville. That 2,500-square-foot location will mark the fifth for the brand. Charlotte brewery Resident Culture is also putting its next location in uptown, at The Market at 7th Street. It plans to open that 300-square-foot bar — its third location in Charlotte — this month.

Eventually, they moved to Los Angeles and gave the business one more shot. It was a success and she was now selling her famous cheesecakes to restaurants all over Los Angeles. Charlotte wasn’t without its restaurant closures in July either. Bonterra closed in SouthPark late last month, ending its 24-year run in Charlotte. And Dogwood Southern Table & Bar, also in SouthPark, will close in August, with celebrity chef David Burke buying its lease and assets to open a new concept there.

The Cheesecake Factory is a beautiful restaurant. It reminds me of pictures I have seen of restaurants and buildings in Italy. My wife and I have been trying to eat at The Cheesecake Factory in Charlotte, NC for years. Every time we would try, there would be a long wait.

The People’s Market, for starters, is teeing up its second location in Charlotte about a year after making a revival in the Elizabeth neighborhood. The Cheesecake Factory menu features more than 200 menu selections made fresh each day. The Cheesecake Factory doesn’t just serve cheesecake. The menu is very diverse and should offer something to please even the strictest palate.

Dessert

There are also new-to-market additions in Charlotte. One such concept, Puerta, will be opening later this month, paying homage to Mexican food and spirits in Elizabeth. Let’s be honest here, most people come for dessert right? On the way out, they have a huge counter where you can order any type of cheesecake you can imagine. I got Fresh Strawberry Cheesecake and my wife got Oreo Dream Extreme Cheesecake.

We stood up next to the wall and a nice couple walked up and handed us their pager. They said you will only have a five-minute wait. So we waited for about five minutes and sure enough, they called us back.

How Jared Leto Completely Transformed Into His House of Gucci Character

jared leto house of gucci

There were a lot of things about Paolo that I really responded to. I loved that he danced his way through life, that he was a big dreamer, and that he was not afraid to fail and make a mistake. Leto is no stranger to metamorphosis having lost 30 pounds to plays a drug-addicted transgender woman with AIDS in 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club, a role which won him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Patrizia attempts a reconciliation with Maurizio, but he flatly ignores her. Later, he asks her for a divorce through his long-time assistant Domenico De Sole, which she flatly refuses. Maurizio recruits up-and-coming designer Tom Ford to revitalize the company's image through a new line.

“They should be flattered Lady Gaga made a movie about them,” he quips. The English-Italian screenwriter spoke at length with Vulture about everything else it took to bring this wild story to the screen. “A sequined Godfather” is how Roberto Bentivegna describes the opulently melodramatic movements of House of Gucci, the Italian fashion epic whose screenplay he co-wrote. Bentivegna is still buzzing from the movie’s showing the previous night at the Academy Museum’s resplendent David Geffen theater.

The Gucci brand has long since been separated from the family itself, ever since Maurizio Gucci (played by Driver) sold his remaining stock of the company in 1993. As for the iconic phrase “Father, Son and House of Gucci” — said by Lady Gaga (who plays Reggiani) in the film’s trailer — Bentivegna gives all credit to the pop star. Set in the late 1980s, House of Gucci follows the murderous romance between Patrizia Reggiani and Maurizio Gucci, when Reggiani marries into the dynastic Italian luxury label. Her unbridled ambition begins to unravel the family legacy and triggers a reckless spiral of betrayal, decadence, revenge — and ultimately murder. The team behind Ridley Scott’s biographical crime drama gathered at the newly opened Academy Museum on Thursday night.

I don’t have a vast vocabulary by any stretch of the imagination, but I could tell a story — not as well as Cyrano, but I could. It was about him being sincere and trustworthy. I come from New Orleans, a small town, and I want to trust everybody I meet in Hollywood.

He needed to tell me what he wanted, because I couldn’t make something for him that he didn’t believe in. He was steering this makeup, and I was just trying to do it as believable as I could in the time we had. But usually it’s the producers [that I meet before] the actor. In this case, I had an interview with Jared, and I just tried to do my best to accommodate what he needed.

Aldo and Rodolfo have a détente relationship. “Then what’s the problem,” you might rightfully ask about a campy package that sounds wholly entertaining on a fashion-soaked, star-studded, feast-for-the-eyes canvas? It’s perhaps helpful to quote a character here, who assigns the shorthand of “a movie set” to the propped and preppy Ralph Lauren, “a rock concert” to the vibrant showiness of Versace, and “the Vatican of fashion” to the refined legacy of Gucci. Now, imagine all these dissimilar looks on a hodgepodge runway that’s supposed to reflect the voice of a single designer. That confusing collection is “House of Gucci,” a film that would have benefited from a coherent silhouette and a little hemming of its tiresome runtime.

Must Read

I’ve done similar makeup [jobs] before, but [the audience is] supposed to recognize that actor. [Jared] was supposed to be absolutely believable as Paolo, which was really, really difficult. All I could do was my best without any second guessing. But I did read the script, so I have a good idea of what happens. I'm really touched that people are having a good time with the performance. Was anything left on the cutting-room floor?

Jared Leto has a surreal new look for his upcoming movie. The film will be a major factor in the awards race in all categories, from Scott’s direction to the acting of Gaga, Driver, Leto, Al Pacino and Salma Hayek. The film opens November 24 in the U.S. via United Artists Releasing. One of the first conversations Joe [Wright] and I had was I think that he has to have something special. We left it with the fact that he had a strong emotional intelligence. And though, you know, I think he was very intuitive in terms of navigating, that didn’t feel right.

Their daughters, Alessandra and Allegra, asked that her conviction be overturned, claiming her brain tumor had affected her ability to reason, according to Vogue. Last week, Gaga, 34, shared a first look photo from the film that featured herself and Driver, 37, dressed in character while in the Italian Alps. Leto is no stranger to transforming himself for an acting role, having previously done so to play a transgender woman in Dallas Buyers Club and to play the Joker in Suicide Squad. In the photo, Leto can be seen wearing a bright purple suit and prosthetic headpieces with a grey receding hairline and aging makeup to look eerily similar to Gucci.

Leto’s character Paolo says “boof” all the time, like it’s a catchphrase. He was in makeup and prosthetics, and then I would see him in the morning, and he’d leave in the evening. There are times when watching Jared Leto’s Paolo Gucci in House of Gucci that the thought crossed my mind on whether or not it’s too much. The movie is steeped in such drama, and audiences will be sucked out of it in an instant anytime Paolo struts out on screen.

I told him, when I saw him last week after the London premiere, that he acted like he didn’t have any makeup on, which is really rare. Most people feel all this stuff on their face and just get restricted, and Jared seemed not bothered by it. He looked normal and relaxed, and it looked very expressive.

Charlotte Tilbury Glow Toner Review 2022

charlotte tilbury toner

Step into the world of professional make up artistry with Charlotte Tilbury. Famed for gracing the faces of A-Listers including Bella Hadid and Kate Moss, Charlotte developed her eponymous brand by fusing Hollywood finishes with easy-to-use formulas. Brimming with skin care ingredients, the Glow Toner is a multi-tasking marvel that reduces the appearance of pores and resurfaces skin to reveal a moisturised, brighter complexion. Great question, although the answer here isn’t certain. Simply put, research hasn’t come to a full understanding about how this B vitamin works its pore-reducing magic, but it does!

Customer Reviews

charlotte tilbury toner

As you may know, not all toners are created for all skin types, and your dry skin needs a formulation that won't over-strip your skin's conditoning natural oils. "If you have dry skin, look for toners with hydrating ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, lecithin, aloe vera, and rosewater," she adds. Thankfully, these ingredients are not only easy to find but are featured in an array of skin-care products across any and every budget. Toners are usually known for their exfoliating, dullness-reducing properties, but astringent formulations are noticeably being swapped out for some of the best toners for dry skin.

Ms. Tilbury is basically charging her customers a hundred dollars for a jar of Glycerin and vegetable oil. There’s nothing else in Magic Cream at a concentration above one percent. After La Mer’s $200 Crème de la Mer face cream, which is basically little more than a jar of Vaseline with seaweed in it, Magic Cream is the second biggest scam in all of skincare.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

For example, you pay £26 for the £173 worth of products in Latest in Beauty’s box. You can also make your own box by picking out your own six products. Try searching the Dupeshop platform if you are looking for a cheaper version of one of your favourites. It compares similar products to see if the budget versions are worth buying.

Higher concentrations of niacinamide can help visibly tighten pores by shoring up skin’s supportive elements. But I really wanted to give Charlotte Tilbury a try and the brand’s new Glow Toner with Niacinamide was the ideal product for me. It smells lovely and applies well, hydrating my skin and making it look glowy. I like this toner for boosting my usual skin care stuff and keeping my skin really hydrated throughout the day especially on non-make up days. I really rate all of the Charlotte tilbury skincare I have tried and this lives up to the brand’s high standards.

These are the musings of Carmine Montalto, NYC-based writer, skincare junkie and brand guru. The former copywriter at Kiehl’s, Carmine has more than 25 years of experience in beauty. Through the Skincarma Blog, he puts all of his product wisdom to work demystifying the ever-evolving world of skin care. The formula contains a couple of ingredients designed to boost the skin’s natural exfoliation process without using any added acid exfoliators.

Charlotte Tilbury Collagen Superfusion Facial Oil (Various Sizes)

For example, if you like Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm, it says you may want to try the M&S Pure Rose Cleansing Balm. If there’s an expensive product that you love, try searching for it at a cheaper price on resale sites such as eBay and Vinted. You may also be able to find products around your home that can become part of your routine. I have never tried anything from UK makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury’s brand – until now. With its focus on makeup and skincare tailored for makeup wearers, the brand has never really appealed to me.

It has a similar smell to that of most Charlotte Tilbury skincare – a kind of floral scent that you will be used to if you use other CT products. There is also LIMONENE, CITRONELLOL, GERANIOL, LINALOOL, CITRAL, EUGENOL much lower down on the ingredients list, used as low level fragrance. However, having said that, it is acid free but it does contain fragrance. So if you are particularly sensitive to fragrance, then this may not be for you.

Best for Uneven Skin Tone: Charlotte Tilbury Glow Toner

The Ordinary’s oat cleansing balm, for instance, costs £12 for 150ml. You can use multiple niacinamide-containing products in your routine, and it will still be non-sensitizing as this ingenious B vitamin is well tolerated by all skin types. It’s even suitable for use by those with sensitive or rosacea-prone skin. Niacinamide is a skin care ingredient worthy of your attention and your skin will love you for using it. Among a handful of other amazing skin care ingredients such as retinol and vitamin C, niacinamide is a standout because of its versatility for almost any skin care concern and skin type. Compare prices across different retailers and brands before making any skincare purchase.

As it has been formulated for use as a classic toner, and not an essence, I have been using it as the post-cleanse step, splashed on to a cotton pad and then wiped over clean, dry skin. A dupe is a cheaper option that is very similar to a typically high-end product. You can search for the cheapest dupe of your favourite products that influencers are recommending on social media, too. For example, Aldi’s Lacura range offers budget-friendly luxury skincare products and is well rated by users.

Similarly, you may choose to skip a dedicated eye cream, and gently apply your face serum around the delicate eye area. Regrettably, there are only five ingredients at a potential concentration higher than one percent. Because I know how to read a skincare ingredient list, or INCI. The common preservative is allowed at a maximum concentration of one percent. And since ingredients are listed in order of their level in the formula, you can be assured that everything that appears after Phenoxyethanol is lower than one percent.

Caroline Hirons, a skincare expert, has set up an app, Skin Rocks, which enables users to search from hundreds of cleansers, masks, serums and SPFs, sorting by price. You can get recommendations and find the products that are within your budget. Many skincare brands have embraced sustainability by offering refills.

The Charlotte Tilbury Glow Toner has a soft milky texture that I really like. It is not a clear solution like many traditional toners and I love that it has Niacinamide in, which my skin really likes and I find great on enlarged pores. Apply morning and evening to clean, dry skin using a cleansing pad or press on using your hands and follow with the rest of your skin care.

The products are only available in Aldi stores and the next health and beauty “special buys” promotion is due to start on 5 May. New research keeps showing it’s one of the most exciting skin care ingredients around. Brands such as The Ordinary, The Inkey List, CeraVe and Simple offer a range of products for various skin types and problems with a more affordable price tag than some luxury ranges.

Played by Driver, Maurizio is spurred on by his wife to become everything he resented. Leto plays Paolo, the son of Rodolfo’s brother Aldo (Al Pacino), who fancies himself a fashion designer and potential successor but whose ideas and manner embarrasses the family. Jared Leto loves a good transformation, as exhibited by his latest performance in Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci” — where he’s unrecognizable under layers of prosthetics as Paolo, the black sheep of the fashion family. The Oscar-winning actor (who won an Academy Award in 2014 for “Dallas Buyers Club”) is a fan of “dancing on the edge” as he’s building a character. “Let’s try and fail here,” Leto tells himself before shooting a scene.

I bow in the presence of genius.” It was so touching to hear that from Al Pacino, one of the greats. I thought, If he can look at me and see and believe in that character, then we’re off to the races. He’s the kindest, most gentle, generous actor maybe I’ve ever worked with.

"It changes the way you walk, the way you talk, the way you move," says Leto, who also channeled close personal experiences with people who died from AIDS into Rayon's nurturing persona. "I felt it was my duty to do whatever I could to add as much truth to the role as humanly possible." "I immediately saw [Paolo] as a dreamer, the black sheep of his family, someone never really heard," Leto says. He felt an "immediate connection" with Gucci, who was hired (and fired) by both his father and uncle. His tale becomes entangled within an even more complicated narrative of a family plagued by bitter infighting, as his cousin Maurizio (Adam Driver) is ultimately murdered by an assassin contracted by Maurizio's ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga). When Leto transforms himself for a film, the performance doesn't always end when the camera stops rolling.

How The Ho Chi Minh Film Festival Plans To Become Southeast Asia's Top Event

A former art student reared on sculpture, he sees the act of chiseling his looks as a vital tool, even if the changes aren't immediately noticeable—like his 2021 turn as a suspected murderer opposite Denzel Washington in The Little Things. Leto confirms that he made tweaks to the character's physicality—everything from his eye color to his teeth to the shape of his nose—though he's careful not to reveal any specifics. Despite the grim tone, Leto listened to his gut and amplified "a lot of humor" while playing the heavily accented, purple-suit-wearing dandy. Working with Oscar-winning costumer Janty Yates, Leto advocated for Paolo's wardrobe to "celebrate color" via extreme patterns and fabrics from Naples; he also underwent hours of makeup and prosthetic work each day. He became so invested in the production that he had to fight back tears the moment Scott wrapped Leto on his final day. "Only in Paris do you get chestnuts falling from the sky."

Covering his face in prosthetics still prompts fear in Leto, who had a claustrophobic experience while making a mold for his character's badly bruised face at the end of 1999's Fight Club. Yet, Gucci was enticing enough for the actor to go bold. LETO When you play a real person, it’s important to do your due diligence, to bring to life an impression of that person with as much dignity and grace as you can muster. Paolo Gucci was a public person, and it was important to have a representation of him — it’s never going to be Paulo Gucci.

An eccentric rich person that is a little off is, frankly, the most believable part of the story, though that could be why those close to Paolo Gucci take offense to the portrayal. Paolo Gucci is extra, Jared Leto’s performance is extra and, yes, his insistence on method acting would be described by some as extra. Say what you will about Leto’s methods, but his performance is great because it compensates for the many subdued performances we see in House of Gucci.

Then I started asking around town, and everyone had wonderful things to say about Göran. If you got to look at every tiny liver spot, every bit of sun damage, every flake of skin, every mole that was put on the face, it’s quite astounding. If [Göran had] made it two-dimensional, he’d be painting an image every day, over and over again.

But in the same way that I would look at articles and talk to friends and family and do research, the same thing is happening externally as well as internally. You go on a journey, and you become a detective. You’re looking at someone’s earlobes, at their hairline, where he may be losing hair or when his hair went gray. You become an author, in a sense, and you try to write the best story that you can.

Jared Leto’s Flamboyance As Paolo Gucci Compensates For Other Performances

Much of this is not documented in the movie which is based on Sara Gay Forden’s book about Patrizia Reggiani’s (Lady Gaga) murder of ex-husband and fashion scion Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver). Shortly before his death, Paolo declared bankruptcy with debts around $90M. As the movie portrays, the son was integral in turning in sensitive information which implicated Aldo, leading to his papa’s arrest in 1986.

Maybe I probably shouldn’t, but until you prove to me that I shouldn’t, I’m going to give it a shot. In Variety‘s Up Next, we asked four Oscar winners to pick the one person who represents the future of Hollywood. In one scene in House of Gucci, he let me have it, and I’ll tell you, it’s ferocious.

You don't know if you start hearing that stuff as a kid and then you take on the attributes. Some of the stereotypical attributes and characteristics are true. I'm very committed, very focused, but so are lots of people.

Leto gained 67 pounds to play Mark David Chapman, the man who shot John Lennon, in 2008's Chapter 27. What were the conversations you had about Jared’s comfort when he wore the prosthetics? I’m sure part of the process is making something that doesn’t impede an actor’s performance. We had pictures of Paolo that we used as a guide. But it took me a long time to understand that Jared didn’t want to be recognizable.

Louisville, KY Houses & Single Family Homes For Rent

Greenberg said the new program is an “unprecedented” step toward ensuring the quality of rental units in Louisville Metro. Anyone who owns a rental property in Louisville, whether it’s a single-family home or an apartment complex, will need to register with Louisville Metro Government by June 1. Under new rules approved by Metro Council in late 2022, landlords have to provide the city with up-to-date contact information, as well as information on any property management companies they use. Mayor Craig Greenberg announced a new registry that Louisville rental property owners are required to join on Monday. From those areas, code enforcement officers will randomly select 10% of registered units to proactively inspect.

“This will streamline our ability to contact property owners swiftly, [so] that we can facilitate the resolution of code violations and help overall city improvement,” Price said. Department of Codes and Regulations director Richard Price said at a press conference Monday the new registration requirements will help the city ensure residents have safe living conditions. Under the new registry, Codes and Regulations will be able to randomly inspect properties, something Greenberg says the city hasn’t done before. "So we're sending out 78,000 renewal notices that say please renew your property," Crowe said, adding the city is also working with the Louisville Apartment Association to educate property owners and managers. More than 6,500 units have already been registered in the new system, said Phillip Crowe, an assistant director in Codes and Regulations.

Those market areas include parts of west Louisville, Shively, Lyndon and West Buechel. While initial registration will cost anywhere from $25 to $250, rental property owners without code violations can have their annual $50 registration fee waived. There are 318 active homes for rent in Louisville, which spend an average of 30 days on the market.

Now, the department has 14 new administrators and inspectors ready to operate the program. And it is encouraging property owners to register all units in a new public database in advance of the starting date. At Monday’s press conference, Mayor Craig Greenberg and other city officials said the goal is for Codes and Regulations to move from a complaint-based model to more proactive enforcement.

Louisville has required property owners to register rental units in a private system − only accessible by code enforcement employees − since 2016. But the new registry approved in 2022 will make all provided information available to the public, including contact information for each rental's owner and manager. Louisville code enforcement officers will start randomly inspecting rental units citywide June 1 to ensure all landlords are providing "quality, safe" housing for their tenants, Mayor Craig Greenberg announced Monday. Starting in June, Codes and Regulations will also start randomly inspecting a portion of rental properties each year. The sweeping changes to Louisville’s rental registry, require those inspections to be done in 11 market areas in Jefferson County where at least a third of residents are renters.

"We are excited to be announcing the details of this rental registry, and we are confident that it will significantly enhance the living conditions for all of our residents," said Richard Price, director of Codes and Regulations. The proactive rental inspection program was approved by Metro Council members in December 2022 and was initially expected to begin last year. But it stalled while the city's Department of Codes and Regulations hired additional employees.

Any owner who fails to register by June 1 faces a $100 fine per unregistered rental unit and an immediate inspection by code enforcement. Price said code employees will send notices to landlords and tenants in advance of the inspections, "letting them know that we will be coming to the property on which date, as well as what our inspectors will be looking for." Code inspections are currently complaint-driven, which can lead some violations to go unresolved, city officials said. Codes department staff will inspect 10% of rental units within those market areas each year, or about 30,000 units total per year. This is another all-day, 7-hour excursion that takes in 4 more must-see spots.

Day 2: Reykjavík, Iceland

Sailing in to the fjord on a cloudless beautiful morning offered more incredible views. Disembarking in Djúpivogur provided our first opportunity to take the tenders to shore. The tendering process was very organized and the trip was short and smooth. The day was too gorgeous to stay inside, so we made our way to the Aquavit Terrace.

Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is breathtaking to view up close, while Eidfjord is the gateway to Hardangervidda, Europe’s largest mountain plateau. The 15-day Viking Homelands ocean voyage explores Scandinavia by sea, following ancient mariner routes. Gaze at foaming waterfalls that plunge into the fjord’s waters, visit the cosmopolitan cities of Berlin and Copenhagen, and linger longer on overnight calls in Stockholm, Oslo and Bergen.

With a population of only about 400 residents, our ship quickly more than doubled the size of the town! Djúpivogur is best known for the Eggs of Merry Bay, a set of large sculptures that showcase the eggs of 34 bird species that nest along the coastlines of Iceland. Our first stop was the ‘blue church’ with a colorful walkway that reminded us of a mini version of the colorful Skolavordustigur Street in Reykjavik. Strolling up the street we passed colorful neighborhood houses and a small restaurant with outdoor seating. It was a little early in the day for a beer, so we continued exploring.

Viking guests can participate in a hands-on workshop led by a master chocolatier at one of the world’s foremost producers, founded in 1845. This delectable excursion is a short drive from Zürich, one of the overnight calls on the 12-day Paris To The Swiss Alps river voyage via France and Germany. The other overnight stay, in Paris, allows time to choose between trips to Monet’s Gardens, the Palace of Versailles, an evening cabaret or a city tour to see the city lit up at night.

We had lunch along with a bottle of champagne, as we soaked up the Iceland sun and scenery. Námaskard – Just to the south of Námaskard is Hverir Geothermal Area, a strip of hot springs where you can walk around a series of fumaroles, mud pots and pools that range in color and are ever-changing. The landscape in this geothermal area was unlike anything else we saw in Iceland.

Despite Iceland lifting all COVID restrictions, Viking guests needed to wear masks on shore excursions as well. The tour included an over 2-hour bus ride to the glacier and lagoon. So, our knowledgeable tour guide gave the usual talk as our travels began. She pointed out several of the geological features and unique landscapes, interspersed with Icelandic history. Viking Sky was calling in Seydisfjordur today, a remote small fishing village of around 700 people. Somehow, each stop on this cruise seemed to get more beautiful.

Holland America Oosterdam Review 2023 With Photos

is holland america a good cruise line

Most recently, Holland America Line received the 2023 Cruise Critic Editor’s Picks Best Service Award. From personal cruise consultants that help you plan epic and memorable vacations, to stewards that know your name and dining preferences, we’ve got you covered. That includes visiting breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Sites that represent the best of human heritage and the natural world. These sites and wonders are recognized for having outstanding universal value to humanity.

Complimentary Dining

The cruise line also offers Signature Beverage Package for passengers ages 21 and above which lets them pay one price per day for beverages. Speaking of amenities, make sure you understand what you'll get as part of your fare and which extras will come with an additional cost. For example, most cruises offer drink packages for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, but a few have drink stations where you can get complimentary lemonade, coffee and tea. Other amenities that might be important to you are Wi-Fi, spa services, babysitting, fitness classes, and upgraded dining experiences. You can usually get a decent discount if you sign up for an amenities package before you sail, so keep an eye out for promotions in the months leading up to your sailing.

Main Dining

The experience on the Koningsdam sailing the Inside Passage to Alaska via Vancouver was delightfully different. It was mostly families, retirees, and some multigenerational groups like ours. Yes, you can wear jeans on a Holland America cruise with the exception of select restaurants on formal nights which are called Gala Nights. On Gala Nights, dress is formal and a suit, cocktail dress, or gown is suggested for women and jacket and tie, dark suit, or tuxedo is suggested for men.

Around the Ship: Cabins, Public Spaces and Amenities

From Pure Form Yoga and Tai Chi, to the enriching lectures where you can learn about upcoming destinations, there’s something for everyone on board. Pinnacle Suites come with all the above advantages, as well as a whirlpool spa bath on the balcony, a guest bathroom, dressing room and pantry spread over 1,150 square feet. Neptune and Pinnacle Suite guests can enjoy breakfast daily in Pinnacle Grill.

I found it a bit confusing and only ended up booking the excursion that just barely crossed the border into British Columbia before turning around, rather than going all the way into the Yukon Territory. Although my intention had been to go all the way, the trip was still beautiful, and probably long enough, considering we had my one-year-old in tow. In market hall fashion, this was the place to go for variety, and it became our daily lunch stop. It had everything from a salad bar and roasted meats to sandwiches, sweets, and noodles. It could get a bit busy and overwhelming at times to be honest, probably because it had so much variety in one spot.

The Dining Room is a two-story space aft on Decks 2 and 3, and you can get breakfast, lunch and dinner here. The lunch menu has a deep lineup of favorites, such as street tacos, BBQ chicken spring rolls, Cobb salad, club sandwich, a cheeseburger and fried chicken and waffles. It remains the same throughout the cruise, but there are enough selections to give a nice variety to visit for lunch often. Ketchikan is always lively, and Eurodam was one of five ships in port during our visit.

How much does a Holland America cruise cost?

A separate dressing room provides space for your clothes, and the bathroom and balcony each have their own whirlpools. A sofa bed sleeps two additional passengers, and the suite also includes a guest toilet. Guests are presented with an array of entertainment shows and nightlife activities which allows them to experience a thrilling cruise vacation. The cruise line also has diverse lounges, movie theatres, and casinos ready for use aboard. Passengers can stay up all night and be entertained with Holland America Line’s stage shows and live music. Each cruise ship provides a flexible dining program which is “As You Wish” Dining that gives guests the choice of an open schedule dining or traditional pre-set and dining time.

Bars and Beverages

But that doesn't mean the ships are stuffy, boring or limited to an older demographic. In fact, HAL ships are more modern than ever, with some of the newest hardware featuring high-tech theater shows, extensive art collections and contemporary music that even members of Generation Z are likely to appreciate. It's common to see multigenerational family groups on Holland America voyages. Of the "Big Eight" cruise lines, Holland America Line is the one that prides itself most heavily on legacy. Don’t forget to pack something orange, a nod to the cruise line’s Dutch heritage. There’s an Orange Night where guests are encouraged, but not required, to wear orange.

Tamarind ($29) and Nami Sushi (a la carte pricing) are two eateries in the same complex with perhaps the best views for any meal experience on Eurodam. Lunch is also available at Pinnacle Grill for a $15 cover charge, and it offers a completely different menu from dinner. Additional appetizers cost $7 each, and you can add a second main selection for $15. It would have been nice to get a salad or soup selection included as a course for this meal. The price was just $19, and the menu is so nice you might want to eat there twice. Eurodam’s eateries hit a nice range of food styles to satisfy almost any craving.

In the Caribbean, the demographic shifts back to Holland America's core North American market and the age range goes back up to 55-plus, with nightly fun coming to a close closer to midnight (or earlier). This is not because the onboard offerings change, but because the line historically draws an older clientele in North America and its newer offerings have not yet been adequately communicated to the cruising population at large. But with all that's new, Westerdam has not lost Holland American staples like an emphasis on service (though on our cruise, service had the occasional bump, particularly in the restaurants) and delicious food in all venues. Yes, Holland America’s anytime dining is called “As You Wish.” With this type of dining, you aren’t confined to specific dining times or locations. However, if you prefer a more traditional cruise dining experience, that option is available as well. Holland America offers rooms to suit everyone from the single traveler to families to cruisers looking for the ultimate in luxury.

They offer the same square footage as standard cabins in each of those categories and share the same layout. As mentioned above, Pinnacle-class ships have the most venues of any Holland America ship, including all of the line's signature entertainment venues. Because of its smaller size, Volendam has fewer features and amenities than most other Holland America ships, particularly the ships of the newest Pinnacle Class and another recent group of vessels called the Signature Class. In some cases, Holland America's oldest cruise ships — those built in the late 1990s and early 2000s — are as much as 39% smaller than the line's newest vessels and have fewer venues on board.

Unless you're sailing a closed-loop cruise (one that leaves from and returns to the same U.S. port) to one of a handful of destinations, you'll need a passport in order to sail with Holland America. If you are taking a closed-loop voyage, you can sail with your original birth certificate and a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, instead of a passport. In keeping with Holland America's less-flashy style, you won't find much in the way of top-deck pastimes. There are no waterslides, go-kart tracks, surf simulators or rock climbing walls. What you will find, however, are two pools — a main pool covered by a retractable glass roof and another adults-only pool that overlooks the wake — as well as hot tubs for relaxing on each ship.

Measuring just 61,214 gross tons, it's 39% smaller than Rotterdam and the two other Pinnacle-class vessels mentioned above. Notably, in addition to a main restaurant and casual buffet, the three Pinnacle Class ships have five separate specialty dining venues — everything from a pan-Asian eatery and an Italian restaurant to a steakhouse. Measuring 99,863 gross tons, Rotterdam is tied with two slightly older sister ships (Nieuw Statendam and Koningsdam) as the biggest ship in the Holland America fleet. In addition to being the newest ships in the Holland America fleet, the three vessels, collectively known as the Pinnacle class of ships, have the most amenities of the ships in the Holland America fleet. Everything is handed to you as you request it and then when you reach the end of the buffet line, you take your plate (or someone can assist) and enjoy your meal. This is such a brilliant idea that I don’t know why all cruise lines don’t adapt to it.

On 1 night of each Holland America cruise you’ll get to experience an Orange Party. Holland America has partnered with O, The Oprah Magazine to bring passengers a collection of Oprah-inspired activities and amenities to each of its ships. It was started as the Netherlands-America Steamship Company, which was headquartered in the Netherlands and provided service to America.
